After backlash, ECI directs home verification for elderly, ailing, disabled voters during SIR hearing in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued new guidelines to prevent elderly and ailing voters from attending physical hearings for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal. The ECI instructed officials not to summon electors aged 85 years and above, as well as those with disabilities or illnesses, for in-person verification. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized the SIR process, alleging that it is a "scam" conducted with AI, and threatened to protest against any deletion of legitimate voter names.
