Why in news: The Kerala government informed the National Tsunami Ready Board (NTRB) that nine coastal panchayats are prepared for IOC-UNESCO evaluation in November 2026.
The nine panchayats include Karumkulam, Alappad, Purakkad, Edavanakkad, Eriyad, Veliyancode, Chemanchery, Azhikode, and Valiyaparamba. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has conducted training and drills since 2022 to meet these standards.
