New Airport Ready: Flights Move from Visakhapatnam to Bhogapuram Aug 17
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has notified that all scheduled commercial flights will move from Visakhapatnam Airport (INS Dega) to Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram starting August 17, 2026. Joint Secretary Asangba Chuba Ao issued the notification, which includes a 30-year closure of INS Dega for commercial flights except for military and emergency use. The new airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1, was built in 31 months at ₹4,727 crore and can handle six million passengers annually. Trade bodies anticipate the shift will boost industrial growth, exports, and tourism in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts.
