On Wednesday, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, alleged that the current government led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) had only renamed schemes from the previous DMK regime. Speaking after the Revised Budget Estimates 2026-27 presentation, he criticized the Thaimaman Thangamothiram Scheme for failing to meet election promises and highlighted several other renames like Anbu Cholai becoming Integrated Senior Citizen Homes and Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil being renamed Vetri Laptop Scheme. He also accused the government of inaction regarding Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam project, which he claimed was affecting Cauvery water flow to Tamil Nadu. DMK MLA Thangam Thennarasu countered by stating that the revised budget figures showed increased borrowing and revenue deficits under the current regime compared to the previous DMK tenure.
