
Jan Suraaj Party's Prashant Kishor Wins Bankipur, Challenges BJP Leadership
On August 3, 2026, Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), won the Bankipur Assembly byelection in Bihar, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Nitin Nabin. The seat had been held by Mr. Nabin for five terms before he vacated it to become BJP chief and join Rajya Sabha. In other states, BJP retained Manjalpur in Gujarat while Congress held Datia in Madhya Pradesh. Kishor dedicated his victory to Bankipur's people and called on BJP central leadership to change Bihar’s Chief Minister.
