In the Bankipur Assembly bypoll on July 30, Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party, won with 64,151 votes, defeating BJP's Neeraj Kumar. Independent candidates named after Bihar leaders Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar failed to cross the 150-vote mark, losing their deposits. A total of 25 candidates competed, including eight Independents, with a voter turnout of 34.30%.
