Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh wins Datia assembly seat
On Monday, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh by defeating BJP's Ashutosh Tiwari with a margin of 6,016 votes. The byelection followed Delhi court’s sentencing of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti to three years for cheating. Singh secured 66,757 votes against Tiwari’s 60,741; Azad Samaj Party's Damodar Yadav came third with 22,527 votes. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari hailed it as a victory over BJP corruption and arrogance, signaling change for the 2028 assembly elections. Singh vowed to promote communal harmony and end gambling rackets in Datia.
