Matua community one of the most affected groups in SIR process in West Bengal, says study
A study by the Sabar Institute in Kolkata found that a significant number of voters in 15 Matua-dominated Assembly constituencies in West Bengal have been deleted from electoral rolls during the special intensive revision (SIR) process. The analysis revealed an average of 33.95% permanently shifted and 21.56% untraceable/absent voters across these constituencies, with the highest percentages found in Krishnaganj and Ranaghat Uttar Purba. The study highlights the vulnerability of the Matua community, who have been excluded from the rolls despite residing in West Bengal for years, and calls for urgent attention to address this issue.
