MLA Virupakshi Arrested as YSRCP Accuses Police of Partisanship
Allegations of police inaction against attackers and high-handedness in MLA's arrest raise concerns.
On Sunday, the YSR Congress Party strongly condemned the arrest of Alur MLA Virupakshi and his son Chandrasekhar by police at around 2.45 a.m., alleging it reflected an "authoritarian attitude" of the State government. The YSRCP leaders accused police of failing to act against TDP activists who attacked Giri's family and pelted stones at Virupakshi, injuring his brother Sriramudu. They criticized Chippagiri Circle Inspector Ravishankar Reddy for acting in a partisan manner and seizing CCTV hard disks from Virupakshi’s residence. The leaders demanded the immediate release of Virupakshi and Chandrasekhar and called for an inquiry into the incident.
