Karnataka CM urges protesters to end bandh, pledges talks before legal move
On August 2, 2026, D.K. Shivakumar, Karnataka's Chief Minister, appealed to protesters to rescind their August 13 bandh call against releasing Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu after a CWMA directive for daily release of 3,500 cusecs for 15 days. He convened an all-party meeting and pledged to discuss the issue with farmers, Kannada organizations, and opposition leaders before moving forward legally. Current inflow into four reservoirs is around 68,000 cusecs but may reduce due to receding rainfall in Kodagu.
