Surat Powerloom Owners Demand Tax Waivers, Hit by Flood Losses of ₹10-15 Lakh
On Thursday, powerloom unit owners in Surat submitted a memorandum to Mayor Mayaben Mavani and Municipal Commissioner M Nagarajan, demanding property tax waivers for 2026-27 and 2027-28 due to flood damage. Floods on July 7-8 and July 22-23 submerged units, causing each owner losses of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. The Uma Industrial Society president Mahendrabhai Patel highlighted the financial strain from frequent floods over four years.
