Sheela Stephen elected Idukki district panchayat president

Sheela Stephen, a Kerala Congress member, was elected as the Idukki district panchayat president with 14 votes, defeating her opponent Thilothama Soman. The UDF secured control of the district panchayat and seven out of eight blocks. The new president will serve for one year, followed by Mini Sabu who will hold the post for the remaining four years. Ibrahimkutty Kallar, KPCC general secretary, stated that the results were a major achievement for the UDF.
