BJP accused of threatening women voters with welfare cuts; JSP threatens protest
On July 26, 2026, Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) and its candidate for the Bankipur bypoll scheduled for July 30, 2026, accused the ruling BJP of using district administration to harass his party members and deploying 'Jivika Didis' for campaigning. He alleged that Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar repeated an objectionable practice from November 2025 by employing Jeevia Didis to threaten women with welfare benefit cuts if they did not vote BJP. Kishor threatened a sit-in protest outside the State Election Commission office unless these practices ceased within 24 hours.
