
Cabinet Committee OKs ₹1,264-crore project for Ballari-Guntakal rail lines
On July 24, 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a ₹1,264-crore project to add third and fourth rail lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to boost rail capacity, improve connectivity under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, cover 46 Kms across three districts, benefit about 99 villages with a population of seven lakhs, enhance freight traffic by 16.22 MTPA, reduce logistics costs and CO2 emissions, and support transportation of commodities like iron ore and coal.
