On July 20, 2026, the Delhi High Court agreed to hear an appeal by Ms. Gitanjali J. Angmo challenging a court order refusing to transfer her husband, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, from Safdarjung Hospital to his preferred hospital. Senior advocate Akhil Sibal argued that Mr. Wangchuk was forcibly taken without prior notice and should retain autonomy over his medical care. A single judge Bench on July 19 held the shift justified due to his deteriorating health. Ms. Angmo alleged delays in informing about his declining potassium levels, seeking transfer to Medanta Hospital.
