On July 17, Sherman Ali Ahmed, the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) only MLA in Assam, led a meeting with 53 party workers and district leaders where they resolved to support Mamata Banerjee despite recent defections. He also initiated disciplinary proceedings against four former officials accused of aligning with rebels. The TMC faces continued losses including the exit of Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick and Madan Mitra, while 20 Lok Sabha MPs merged with NCPI.
