KSRTC Women Riders Soar 87%, Minister Denies Employee Cuts Amid Salary Delays

At a press conference on Thursday, Transport Minister C.P. John announced that the Priyadarshini free travel scheme for women and transgender people on KSRTC buses saw daily ridership of women passengers increase from 6.48 lakh to 12.12 lakh, marking an 87% rise. Women now account for about two-thirds of Ordinary bus capacity, while overall KSRTC passenger numbers rose by 28.9%. The scheme did not reduce male usage and lowered fuel consumption per passenger.
