Supreme Court Shows Reluctance to Hear Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Protest Case
Potential abuse of power by quashing an FIR against high-ranking officials.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court indicated reluctance to hear a plea by the Chandigarh Administration challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court verdict that quashed an FIR against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other AAP leaders over a 2020 protest. The bench adjourned the hearing after Additional Solicitor General S V Raju sought time to address technical objections in three petitions filed against high court orders. Quashing the FIR, the HC held that there was no prima facie case against the petitioners, noting that stone pelting began only after water was shot on protesters by police.
