The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved India’s second iteration of the Semiconductor Mission (ISM 2.0) with an outlay of Rs 1.27 lakh crore, focusing on subsidizing chip manufacturing supply chains and offering research subsidies over six years. ISM 2.0 aims to deepen domestic value addition in electronics by enabling India to design and manufacture chips for nearly 70-75% of domestic applications by 2029 and become a top semiconductor nation globally by 2035.
