The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026) approved ₹1.27 lakh crore for the second edition of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM 2.0). IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme aims to attract ₹4 lakh crore in investments and produce semiconductors worth ₹2 lakh crore. ISM 2.0 covers six pillars, including chip design, and incentivizes suppliers of raw materials like minerals and gases. The first edition had a ₹76,000 crore outlay and approved 12 projects with total investments of ₹1.64 lakh crore.
