Delhi High Court Urges Action as Climate Activist's Hunger Strike Threatens Life
On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the Delhi High Court sought responses from the Centre and Delhi government regarding a PIL filed by Advocate Rakesh Kumar Saini to safeguard climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's health. Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 at Jantar Mantar, demanding action against the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The court asked for responses by July 16 due to the urgent nature of the issue, as Wangchuk’s health had deteriorated significantly. Saini urged immediate medical intervention to prevent abetment of suicide under Section 108 of BNS, 2023.
