India-UK CETA slashes duties, saves Indian firms $600 million from July 15
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), aimed at boosting trade to $100 billion by 2030 from the current $55-60 billion, will begin on July 15. Zero duty applies to Indian textiles, leather, gems, plastics, and silver imports into the UK. Sensitive sectors like ICE vehicles are protected. The deal also exempts Indian companies from UK social security contributions for up to five years, saving an estimated $600 million. Signed in London on July 24, 2025, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British PM Keir Starmer, CETA covers areas such as digital trade and SMEs.
