On Monday, R Sugathan, BJP councillor of Kerala's Vazhottukonam ward in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, took the oath inside Viyyur Central Prison following a Kerala High Court order. The oath was administered by VV Rajesh, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, amid Sugathan’s detention under KAAPA. This marks the first such ceremony in Kerala's history. However, Sugathan risks disqualification for missing council meetings due to his continued imprisonment.
