Widow of Khalra Appeals for People’s Commission to Investigate Punjab Disappearances

On Monday, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, widow of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, appealed for a people’s commission to investigate enforced disappearances and fake encounters during Punjab's militancy period. She urged unity in seeking truth and accountability ahead of an Ardas at Harike Pattan on Tuesday called by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, on Monday appealed for a people’s commission to establish actual numbers of those disappeared or killed during Punjab's militancy period. She demanded justice and financial assistance from the SGPC for affected families, alleging successive governments had failed victims' families while protecting accused police officers. The appeal comes amid renewed attention following the release and subsequent removal of the film Satluj inspired by Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life.
