Activist Pranab Doley Detained Under 15 Laws for Protesting Luxury Hotels Near Kaziranga Park

On July 12, 2026, Assam Police detained activist Pranab Doley under at least 15 sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for leading protests against luxury hotels near Kaziranga National Park. He was taken from Bokakhat to Guwahati and will be handed over to Bokakhat police. Mr. Doley, who accused park officials of harming locals, said he was arrested without papers. Gaurav Gogoi, Congress president, criticized the BJP-led government for suppressing dissent through police action.
