Over 20 lakh names removed from Odisha voter list after SIR Phase I
The Election Commission of Odisha published the draft report of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral rolls, resulting in over 20 lakh names being deleted. Of the total electors, 1,60,19,176 were male and 1,53,65,083 were female, with 2,775 transgender voters. The CEO stated that 93.97% of the electorate submitted their enumeration forms, reflecting a high level of participation in the first phase of the SIR. However, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) challenged the draft report, claiming inconsistencies and alleging that nearly 27 lakh voters were excluded from the electoral roll. Claims and objections will be received between July 5th to August 4th, with a final electoral roll published on September 6th.
