I planned to set up semiconductor factory in India 2 decades ago, but government was shackled then: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will have five functional semiconductor factories in 2026, a significant step forward in the country's ambition to become a global semiconductor hub. The CG Semi facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marks the third unit where commercial production of chip packaging is set to begin. Modi highlighted the growth of India's electronics industry, noting that mobile phone manufacturing has increased by 33% since 2014 and India is now the world's second largest mobile manufacturer. He emphasized the importance of skill development and innovation for India's future in semiconductors and AI. The PM also praised the efforts of women employees from tribal regions who contributed to the facility's success.
