Women Farmers’ Empowerment Bill passed unanimously in Maharashtra Assembly

The Maharashtra Assembly unanimously passed the Women Farmers’ Empowerment Bill, a landmark legislation recognizing women farmers in agriculture and allied activities. The bill aims to address historical injustices by providing access to welfare schemes and entitlements for women farmers who traditionally have been excluded from such benefits. The Maharashtra government has pledged to create a database of women farmers, establish a fund specifically for them, and appoint support officers at district and taluka levels to assist with obtaining certificates and accessing resources. The bill will be tabled in the Maharashtra Legislative Council next.
