Post-SIR, size of electorate in Chennai and nearby districts remains larger than votes polled in 2021 and 2026 polls
Following a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, the electorate size in most Assembly constituencies across Chennai and its three neighboring districts is larger than the votes cast during the 2021 and 2024 elections. Only four constituencies within the city saw higher vote counts than their revised electorate strength. Political parties have expressed concerns about the high number of deletions from the electoral rolls, particularly the ruling DMK's allies, while the AIADMK argues that most deleted entries are bogus voters. The draft electoral roll, published on December 19th, shows a voter size of approximately 2.3 lakh.
