Kerala government replaces prosecutor in ED assault case amid bail controversy, appoints Special Public Prosecutor
Government replacing prosecutor in a case involving assault on ED officials raises concerns about potential interference.
Kerala's government appointed senior advocate A. Santhosh Kumar as Special Public Prosecutor in the case involving alleged assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials following a raid on Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of the Opposition, residence. This appointment follows controversy over the handling of the prosecution after the ninth accused, Harish Kumar, a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) worker, was granted bail. The Thiruvananthapuram City Police sought the removal of existing prosecutor T. Geena Kumari due to alleged lapses in opposing the bail application and facilitating its grant. The government is considering an appeal against the bail order and will also explore removing the current prosecutor.
