Krishnagiri police register case against DMK’s Gen Z wing coordinator for ‘offensive post’
Police action against a political figure for social media post raises concerns about free speech.
The Krishnagiri police are searching for Anbanandan Ariyappan, the DMK's Gen Z wing coordinator, after a complaint was filed against him for an Instagram post that allegedly "outraged the modesty of women" and "defamed the government." The Rayakottai police registered a case after a TVK union secretary lodged a complaint. Anbanandan’s post, which was in response to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's Assembly speech about DMK leader MK Stalin, sparked a controversy. The police raided his home late at night and filed an FIR under various sections of the BNS Act and the Indecent Representatiion of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
