Over 20 lakh medical aspirants appear for NEET-UG 2026 re-exam amidst heightened security

Over 20 lakh candidates took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) re-examination on June 21, 2026, at over 5,440 centers across India and 14 abroad. The examination was held in 13 languages, including Hindi and English, with students finding the paper more demanding than the May exam due to a longer Physics section. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured smooth conduct by waiting at the airport instead of leaving immediately for his residence. Extensive security measures were implemented, including CCTV surveillance, jammers, and two-layer frisking. However, some candidates faced difficulties reaching centers due to traffic issues or last-minute rule changes.
