Unlike the 2022 split, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) is facing a challenge in justifying a potential split with six of its nine Lok Sabha MPs expressing discontent. While reasons cited include the party moving away from Bal Thackeray's ideology and growing proximity to the Congress, none of the rebel MPs have openly leveled these allegations. Eknath Shinde, who led the 2022 rebellion, is again using similar arguments against Uddhav, drawing pushback from his Sena (UBT) counterparts. Uddhav Thackeray argues that despite losing the original name, symbol and organization after the 2022 split, the party won nine Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra in the 2024 elections, suggesting a strong organizational base. However, some within the party acknowledge internal discontent among MPs who have been unhappy over the last few months.
