BJP-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani won a Rajya Sabha seat in Jharkhand after cross-voting by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal MLAs, securing the other seat for Baijnath Ram. The Congress received votes from its 16 MLAs and four MLAs of ally JMM. The victory comes amid political turmoil in Bengal and Maharashtra that is expected to boost the numbers of the NDA in both houses of parliament.
