India’s annual defence production reached an all-time high of Rs 1.78-lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year, marking a 15.6% increase from the previous fiscal year and a significant jump since 2020-21. The Ministry of Defence attributed this growth to increased indigenous production, with Defence Public Sector Undertakings accounting for most of it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the efforts of the Department of Defence Production and public and private sectors were praised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who highlighted the sector's potential for continued growth.
