Verify nationality of 2,860 people for their deportation, India tells Bangladesh | India News

The Indian government has requested Bangladesh to verify the nationality of over 2,860 people residing in India who they believe are Bangladeshi nationals. This request follows a recent influx of undocumented Bangladeshis into bordering states and is part of an intensified crackdown on illegal immigration. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson stated that India has laws to deal with illegal immigrants and will deport them accordingly. The issue has been discussed at bilateral meetings between the two countries, including at the home secretary level, but Bangladesh has expressed concern over "push-in" attempts and insists on formal, legal, and diplomatic channels for repatriation.
