After Siddaramaiah's resignation, DK Shivakumar was unanimously elected as the new CLP leader and formally named Karnataka’s next Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah congratulated Shivakumar and called for a "second freedom struggle" to protect the country's unity and integrity. The Congress leadership expressed confidence that under Shivakumar's leadership, they will return to power in the 2028 elections.
