Audit of fundamental rights’ effectiveness could yield ‘uncomfortable’ findings: J. Chelameswar

J. Chelameswar, former Supreme Court judge, expressed concerns about the effectiveness of constitutional rights in protecting common people during a conference on legal education. He suggested an audit could reveal "very uncomfortable" findings and emphasized that the system's progress should be examined by the judicial fraternity. K. Chandru, former judge of the Madras High Court, also spoke at the event, questioning the need for an "Indianised jurisprudence" while advocating for legal studies to address contemporary issues like poverty and caste.
