Saatheesan flays move to rename MGNREGS
Renaming MGNREGS erases a historical figure and could signal a pattern of erasing legacies.
V.D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition, criticized the Centre's decision to remove Mahatma Gandhi's name from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), arguing that it reflects intolerance and fear by the Sangh Parivar. He stated that the move is part of a larger effort by the Sangh Parivar to erase legacies of freedom fighters and claim exclusive ownership of the nation. Satheesan emphasized that the MGNREGS was a revolutionary scheme that empowered rural communities, and the BJP's attempt to claim it as their own will be met with resistance from the nation.
