Tapas Roy, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA from Maniktala, was sworn in as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Suvendu Adhikari, the Chief Minister, attended the ceremony. The oath-taking of other MLAs will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, with the election for Speaker scheduled for Friday.
