NDA leaders stake claim to form Assam government

Himanta Biswa Sarma, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was unanimously elected as the leader of the Assam Legislature Party. Following this, the NDA staked a claim to form the government in Assam with the support of 102 MLAs. The swearing-in ceremony for the new council of ministers is scheduled for May 12th. J.P. Nadda, Union Minister and central observer for the BJP Legislature Party meeting, announced that eight BJP legislators proposed Sarma's name as their leader. The newly elected members of the BJP and its regional allies — Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) — chose their leaders in the morning.
