With defeat in Kerala, Left out of power for first time since 1977

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] lost the Kerala Assembly election, marking the first time since 1977 that they are not in power in any state. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused the CPI(M) of collaborating with the BJP, a claim the party's general secretary M.A. Baby dismissed as a "deliberate" and "distorted" attempt to damage its reputation.
