66% turnout for civic polls as people brave heat to vote in Gujarat

Voter turnout in the Gujarat local body elections ranged from 45% to 66%, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel casting their votes. Municipal corporations, including Ahmedabad, saw lower turnout compared to other local bodies. The elections are being held under revised norms for Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations following delimitation and restructuring of wards in several districts. A total of 9,992 candidates are vying for positions across 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. The counting is scheduled for April 28th.
