Union government to resume talks on Ladakh on May 22, 2026

Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Ladakh Lieutenant-Governor, announced the resumption of talks between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and civil society bodies, the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on May 22nd. This announcement follows a stalemate after violence erupted in Leh last year and comes ahead of a visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Ladakh. The talks aim to address the core demands of civil society groups, including Statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, which are pursued by the LAB and KDA.
