Month into new govt, Nepal home minister Sudan Gurung quits over links to bizmen under laundering lens

Nepal's home minister Sudan Gurung resigned amid scrutiny of his wealth disclosures and alleged business links with businessman Deepak Bhatta, who is under investigation for money laundering. Gurung's resignation follows a similar setback for Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who sacked labor minister Deepak Kumar Sah in April after allegations of misconduct. The controversy began when Gurung declared assets including shares and gold exceeding Nepali Rs 61 lakh (Rs 38 lakh) and investments in micro-insurance firms linked to Bhatta. Gen Z activists demanded his dismissal and arrest, citing a conflict of interest. Shah has been facing protests over stricter customs duties on goods from India and a ban on party-affiliated student politics.
