Linking women’s reservation with delimitation is unconstitutional, contends G. Ramakrishnan

G. Ramakrishnan, Chairperson of the CPI(M) Control Commission, criticized the government's linking of women’s reservation and delimitation in the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026. He argued that this linkage was undemocratic and a tactic to campaign against opposition parties in Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Ramakrishnan also questioned the timing of the special Lok Sabha session on April 16-18, citing the lack of transparency and the absence of an all-party meeting. He further stated that the delay in implementing women’s reservation before the 2024 elections was due to a non-conducted census and lack of delimitation after 2023.
