Linking women’s reservation with delimitation is unconstitutional, contends G. Ramakrishnan

G. Ramakrishnan, Control Commission Chairperson of the CPI(M), criticized the government's linking of women’s reservation and delimitation in the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026. He argued that this linkage was undemocratic and intended to undermine opposition parties by campaigning against them based on the issue. Ramakrishnan also questioned the timing of the special Lok Sabha session, citing a lack of transparency and the absence of an all-party meeting despite the unanimous enactment of the Women’s Reservation Act in 2023. He further highlighted the delay in implementing women's reservation before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
