ED searches house of Kolkata Deputy Police Commissioner, arrests businessman; Mamata hits back

ED conducted searches at the residence of Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas and a businessman's premises in connection with a money laundering case. The agency recovered over ₹1 crore cash and a large quantity of gold from the businessman's house, who was subsequently arrested. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, accused the ED of politically motivated actions, while Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, supported the searches as targeting "thieves." The searches follow raids on Trinamool candidates' homes and offices by the Income Tax Department earlier this week. The West Bengal assembly elections are scheduled for April 23 and 29.
