Kerala local body polls: LDF hegemony weakens in Kollam
The United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a major victory in the Kollam district elections, dethroning the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and gaining control of the Kollam Corporation for the first time since its formation. The UDF also gained significant ground across other local bodies, including municipalities and panchayats. National Democratic Alliance (NDA) made notable gains in the Kollam Corporation, winning a total of 12 seats. P. Rajendraprasad, DCC president, attributed the victory to voter anger towards the administration and public backlash against the Left government. CPI(M) district acting secretary S. Jayamohan suggested an unholy alliance between the UDF and BJP in some areas contributed to the LDF's defeat.
