Supreme Court’s intervention offers fresh hope to excluded electors for West Bengal Assembly polls
The Supreme Court ruled that individuals whose appeals against voter exclusion are upheld by appellate tribunals can vote in the West Bengal elections. This decision offers hope to over 27 lakh voters who were initially excluded from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, bringing the total number of deletions in the state to over 90 lakhs. Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson, expressed her happiness with the ruling.
